First Appearance (Anime) Episode 01
Portrayed By

Sora Kasugano is the main female protagonist and the twin sister of Haruka Kasugano.

Appearance[]

Sora is a very beautiful white-skinned young girl with a perfect, doll-like appearance and is often seen as a fragile girl with long silver hair tied in twintails and gray eyes. Whenever she goes to school (or some other places) she often uses this twin-tail hairstyle. She usually unties her hair once at home. She is 152 cm tall and is often seen carrying a rabbit doll, which she received as a present from her mother before she and Haruka Kasugano left the village, which lends her a deceptively childlike character. She wears black ribbons for most of the anime and visual novel, but is shown to wear white ones when she was younger, and later on in Haruka no Sora.

Personality[]

The most asocial character of Yosuga no Sora. Fraternal twin sister to Haruka Kasugano. Beneath Sora's angelic, doll-like appearance lies a troublesome personality that is prone to withdrawn laziness and a rather severe lack of social graces. In Episode 10 and onwards, she becomes more considerate and caring towards Haruka after she decided to not trouble Haru too much, and tries her best to take care of him. She seems to be very lonely when Haruka is not with her. She is also very jealous when she sees Haru with other girls. In the manga, she tends to be more helpful and caring towards Haruka, like cooking when he can not, and she does not seem to spend too much time on the internet. Besides Haruka, she seems friendly towards Akira Amatsume too.

Background[]

The traumatic loss of their parents, Sora's deep bond with Haruka Kasugano, and a kiss she shared with him as children cause her to fantasize about him. While she shields the extent of her feelings for him in public, she experiments with herself while fantasizing about being with him. She hates Nao Yorihime because of her relationship with Haruka and the fact that Nao raped Haru when they were young. Although she hates Nao, it is implied that they were once good friends.

At the end of her route, she wins Haru's affection by confessing her love to him and making love to him as he was caring for her when she had a fever. After they get caught making love by Nao and Kozue Kuranaga, he attempts to break off the relationship, and in response, Sora attempts suicide by drowning. Haruka tries to stop her but his inability to swim only causes the both of them to sink. Sora changes her mind upon hearing him whisper "Save me" and she drags Haru to shore. Panicked, Sora is relieved once Haru awakes after a near-death experience. They then embrace, acknowledging their love for one another and they decide to find a future together. Afterward, they decide to travel to a faraway country, promising their friends to come back with souvenirs.

Story (Visual Novel)[]

Common Route:[]

After the sudden death of their parents, Haruka and his twin sister Sora move to their late grandfather's house in a small village they used to visit as children. There, Haruka meets several residents, two of which are his old friends, but Sora stays at home, refusing to go to school even when Haruka starts attending. Sora tells Haruka her reason for not wanting to go to school is that she doesn't have her uniform made.

Sora's Route:

Wanting Sora to go to school Haru goes to take Sora's measurements so she can have her uniform made. However, he realizes it was unnecessary to do so since her old uniform had her size number on it. However even after getting her uniform Sora still refuses to go to school, but Haru manages to convince her after saying they will go together. Though she is at first disappointed to find that she and Haruka are in different classes, this subsides once she realizes she can visit Haru on breaks.

Two days later the pool at school has just opened and both Sora's and Haru's classes went swimming, Ryouhei decides to jump into the pool and jokingly pull Haru with him, which quickly becomes turns into a disaster, as Haru can't swim and he starts drowning. Sora comes to his rescue before anyone else and hastily pulls him to shore. After saving him, she breaks down crying saying she doesn't know what she would do if she lost him too. Haru comforts her by embracing her before thanking her for saving him.

That day, after getting home from school, Sora tells Haru he needs to rest and that she'll go buy the groceries. But because she doesn't know where the market is, Haru decides to go with her. The two run into Nao leading to Sora acting aggressively toward her. When confronted about why she acts this way Sora starts to beg Nao to not take Haru away from her and reveals that she knows Nao raped Haru as a child. She then goes on to accuse Nao of still wanting to have sex with Haru. Nao runs away after telling her those weren't her intentions and Haru reassures her that he and Nao just wanted to be friends. Relieved from hearing this Sora asks Haru if he would like her if she did the same thing and heads home, which leaves Haru thinking about what she meant. Sora apologizes to Nao the next day and says she wouldn't mind if she helped Haru once in a while.

After school, Haru, Ryouhei, Akira, and Kazuha have agreed to all go to Akira's house for a study session and Haru brings Sora along with him. After they've all arrived Ryouhei asks Haru to quiz him. Embarrassingly he doesn't get a single question right. On the other hand, Sora surprisingly manages to ace the quiz and get every question right. Haru is surprised because he's never seen Sora study, but she reveals that she would study in the hospital at times when he was too busy to come visit her.

The next day Sora joins Haru and Nao along with Ryouhei, Kazuha, Akira, Kozue, and Motoka for a trip to the beach. Nao and Kozue decide to get a raft to go the deep part of the water, Haru and Sora nearly join them too but early on the boat becomes unstable. Sora pulls Haru away to land because he can't swim he shouldn't be in a boat. Sora then pulls him away from everyone else so she could spend some time alone with him and eventually falls asleep. Haru decides to stay beside her so someone can watch the luggage. While watching her sleep, Sora's earlier question ''Would you still love me if I did the same as Nao'' floats through his head. He wonders what they could have meant and realizes there's a feeling of lust in him for Sora but he quickly decides to suppress these feelings.

That night after coming home from the beach as Haru was struggling to fall asleep Sora came into his room and asks if they could sleep together. Haru accepts and the two go on to reminisce about the times they spent in the house when they were little. Haru eventually pretends to fall asleep, when Sora kisses him and confesses her love to Haru. Haru paralyzed from shock doesn't do or say anything before actually falling asleep.

Confused with what happened and realizing Sora might view him as different from family, Haru begins avoiding Sora. This comes to a head one night when Haru shockingly catches Sora masturbating in her room while calling his name, He then realizes he may want to respond to her feelings after all. But he doesn't do anything until the next day after getting a call from his grandmother, who encourages them to move in with her, and if he doesn't want to that he can at least send Sora so she won't be a burden to him. Haru says he needs more time to think about it. After returning to his house from a walk he is greeted by Sora who worryingly asks him if they will be separated after they've come all this way and asks what should she do. After telling her she doesn't have to do anything as long she always stays by his side Sora embraces and kisses him, deciding to finally respond to her feelings Haru kisses her back and the two go on to make love for the first time.

One morning worried because the twins had missed school Kozue and Nao decide to go visit them to see if they're alright and to give them their handouts, but because they showed up unannounced they had caught Sora practically naked coming out of Haru's room. Confused by what happened Nao asks what they were doing to which Sora responds with "The same thing you and Haru did" and says that Haru accepted her. In shock, Kozue runs away while Nao calmly tells Haru that she'll tell Ryouhei and their other friends not to visit them before leaving. Haru then shuts himself in his room for a couple of hours not wanting to open the door before coming to Sora's room and telling her they should stop their relationship as lovers.

The next morning Haru decides to attend school while Sora stays home. Returning from school he and Nao realize Sora's missing but that she couldn't have gone far since she didn't take her shoes. Nao gets help from all their friends and they continue searching for Sora until nightfall. Realizing there's no other place she could have gone but the lake in the shrine Haru rushes there. As he's climbing up he gets a message from Sora that just says "goodbye" Realizing he has very little time left he quickly climbs up the stairs to the lake to see Sora standing in the middle of it. Haru's attempt to stop Sora nearly ends in them both drowning, Regaining consciousness, it's revealed Sora saved them both. He then goes on to profess his love to Sora and the two decide to continue their relationship as a couple and proceed to make love while waiting for the sun to rise. Days later the two take a trip to a small country in Northern Europe where family acquaintances live and send a message to their friends asking if they have any requests for souvenirs.

Story (Anime)[1][]

Common Route (Episode 1):[]

After the sudden death of their parents, Haruka and his twin sister Sora move to the house formerly inhabited by their late grandfather, in a small village they often visited as children. There, Haruka encounters several of the residents, some of whom are old friends, but Sora stays at home, refusing to go to school even as Haruka starts attending. Realizing that Haruka is growing more and more distant and slipping from her grasp, Sora goes to Haruka's room at night and appeals to Haruka as she removes her clothes...

Kazuha's/Akira's Route (Episodes 2-6)[]

Sora asks Haru to take her measurements so she can have a uniform made and finally starts attending school with Haruka, though she is disappointed to find that she and Haruka are in different classes. Besides showing hints of a romantic attraction to Haru, and mild jealousy, she is mostly irrelevant in these two routes. She eventually grows to accept both Kazuha and Akira as partners for Haru, in their respective routes.

Nao's Route (Episodes 7-9)[]

Episode 7 replays the event where Sora asks Haru to take her measurements so she can have a uniform made. The next day, Nao comes over to bring Haruka some mosquito repellent, since Sora is scared of mosquitoes and leaves almost immediately. The next day Ryouhei invites Haruka to the school rooftop to take a peek at the girls cleaning the pool. Haruka warns Ryouhei, though, not to peek at Nao and leaves. Much later Ryouhei tells Nao that Haruka, "the prince she has been waiting for," has a crush on her; but she thinks he does not like her. The truth is that something happened between the two many summers ago: Nao, trying to escape the noise of her arguing parents, ran to Haruka's house. At that time Haruka was sleeping on their veranda and was awoken by the older Nao raping him. The regret from this incident led Nao to believe that Haru dislikes her.

However, Ryouhei, Akira, and even Kazuha all wish to see Haru and Nao together. They get the wheel turning by arranging for the two to meet at the school pool on a Sunday. There, Nao gets to know that Haruka does not hate her, only that he was just surprised at the events of that summer day, dispelling her assumptions. Meanwhile, Sora is shown expressing her hatred of Nao, by typing 'I hate Nao' over and over again on her laptop. Sora thinks this is the reason why Haruka has been preoccupied the past couple of days.

Sora begins showing her hatred of Nao in the open, even in front of Ryouhei and Nao herself. One afternoon Sora, attracted by the smell of curry cooking in the kitchen, catches Haruka and Nao having intercourse in the living room. Sora throws Nao out of the house, warning her not to see Haruka ever again since it is the second time she catches the two doing the "dirty deed." She then throws the curry they cooked down the drain, as she only wants Haruka's cooking. Nao is desolate after that, and though she wants to see Haruka, she has to hide because Sora is always nearby. However, Haruka is always optimistic Sora will forgive and accept them both, as he, after learning from Ryouhei that she changed, wants Nao to return to being a cheerful, caring, and lighthearted person. Sora lightens up a bit to the sight of Haruka and Nao being together, but still has some reservations, and prefers to distance herself from the two. It is for this reason that she never joined Haruka and Nao along with Ryouhei, Kazuha, Akira, and Motoka for the annual summer trip to the beach.

Sora decides to follow everyone at the beach, but the moment she got off the bus, she hears news of a young man that was resuscitated with CPR after nearly drowning. As Sora looks over, she finds out that the boy in question is Haruka. Nao performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on him. With that event, Sora becomes even more insecure, eventually telling Haruka not to leave home and telling all sorts of excuses just to make him stay. One day, Sora made Haruka choose between her and Nao, but he just shrugs it off and proceeds to school with Nao as if nothing is wrong. That afternoon Haruka finds Sora missing after receiving a text from her saying "Let's leave here." Akira, Kazuha, and Ryouhei join Nao and Haruka in search of her, until, amidst the rain, Nao finds Sora at the bus stop. Refusing to go with Nao, Sora runs out of the bus stop, angrily telling her that she is the reason why Haruka has changed. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning strikes the bus stop and burst into flames. Sora then remembers she forgot her stuffed bunny inside. Nao rushes in to retrieve the only memento Sora has of her mother, causing her to be nearly trapped inside. After receiving the rescued item, Sora reveals to Nao her insecurities with her, that she is afraid Haruka would leave her alone. The next night, Sora joins everyone during the Summer Festival at the shrine. This time, Sora is more receptive to Nao.

Sora's route (Episodes 7, and 10-12)[]

Following the events of Episode 7, Episode 10 replays the event where Haruka is trying to talk to Sora about his relationship with Nao, but this time Sora is always at the back of his mind, since, lately, she seems not to accept Nao, and that she seems to be teasing him. Haruka suggests a date with Nao, but cannot get to tell Sora about it, even disguising it as if he will be spending time with Ryouhei. During the date, Nao notices that Sora is never far from Haruka's mind, him buying things for his sister rather than for her, and eventually spoils their date. They plan to make croquette curry upon arriving home but is canceled when Haruka finds Sora not feeling well in her room after having a bad dream. The next day Haruka tries to hide his date with her from Sora.

One night, Haruka catches Sora masturbating in her room while mentioning his name, much to his dismay. A flashback plays to a moment during Sora and Haru's childhood, when the two of them kiss, showing the source of Sora's feelings.

Haruka takes Nao on a date again, but he cannot shake the sight of Sora masturbating that night off from his mind. Eventually, Haruka hits his limit and tries to get rid of those thoughts by taking Nao to a love hotel, but she rejects his act and asks if he loves her. Haruka is unable to answer and returns home. Soon after, Sora gets a fever and Haruka stays home to take care of her. That evening, Sora, with her fever subsided, confesses her feelings to Haruka and the two make love, beginning a relationship. This did not go unnoticed, as everyone, especially Kozue, and Nao, begins to see the twins spend more and more time with each other. One afternoon, when Kozue and Nao decide to visit the Kasugano residence, they catch the twins in the middle of sexual intercourse.

Kozue runs away in shock at the sight of the twins having sex, while Nao calmly left the scene, Sora not even caring. Haruka thinks of ditching school, but she tells him to think little of it. Kozue tells him the next day that she'll never talk to him again, while Nao effectively ends her relationship with him after his apology. That night Haruka fights with Sora when he tells her that they should stop doing it, even hitting her when the subject of pregnancy and abortion comes up. Things get complicated when they find out that their parents left no money for the two, and to survive they have to be taken under custody of their relatives, but this means them living apart. That afternoon, Haruka awakens to find Sora missing and her room in a mess. He goes looking for her after receiving a text from Sora that sounds like a suicide note. Nao even helps him in looking for her everywhere, mentioning to him her confrontation with Sora, saying she has seen the two making love that summer day, and that "now they are even." Haruka then remembered the lake Akira mentioned the other day. Haruka finds Sora, and his attempt to stop her from going deeper into the lake nearly ends in them drowning. Days later the two leave the place to live together overseas in the city where an artisan who had connections with their parents lived, hoping to find happiness elsewhere. Even though Kozue is unwilling to accept them, Nao believes they will do just fine.

Relationships[]

Yosuga no Sora - 09 - Large 11

The incestuous relationship between somewhat identical twins Haruka Kasugano and Sora Kasugano was first hinted at during their childhood when Sora returned home after being kept in the hospital for a long time.

At first, Haruka did not want that kind of relationship with his sister. He thus denied his feelings for the next three years. He further tried to push his feelings aside by entering a relationship with Nao Yorihime. However, after Sora confessed her love for him and kissed him, he gave in to his feelings for her and they proceeded to make love, beginning a relationship. When Nao and Kozue Kuranaga visited the Kasugano twins, they caught them making forbidden love. Kozue told Haruka that although she loved him, she would never see him again, and Nao ended their relationship on the spot. Ashamed of his actions, he thought of breaking off his relationship with Sora. Sora got so upset that she attempted to drown herself in the lake located behind the shrine. Haruka chased her down, and the two of them almost both drowned, but Sora rescued him. After the near-death experience between them, they give in to their feelings and professed their love for each other. They then decided to move to a foreign country to find happiness as a couple.

In a manga sequel/fan disk, it is revealed that Haruka and Sora moved to Scandinavia to live with a family friend to find happiness together.

Though not much is known, the Stuffed Bunny is portrayed as a gift from Sora's mother in the anime (but a gift from Haru in the manga). It can be inferred from this gift (How Sora treasures it), and Sora's general sadness over their parents' death, that Sora and her mother were close. Sora's physical appearance closely resembles her mother's, particularly their shared hair color.

Akira, Kazuha, and Ryouhei join Nao and Haruka in search of her, until, amidst the rain, Nao finds Sora at the bus stop.

Episode 10: "As for a Bird's Faked Cry"/"Tori no Sorane wa" (トリノソラネハ)

This episode replays the event where Haruka is trying to talk to Sora about his relationship with Nao, but this time Sora is always at the back of his mind, since, lately, she seems not to accept Nao, and she seems to be teasing him. Haruka suggests a date with Nao, but cannot get to tell Sora about it, even disguising it as if he will be spending time with Ryouhei. During the date, though, Nao notices that Sora is never far from Haruka’s mind, him buying things for his sister rather than for her, and eventually spoils their date. They plan to make croquette curry upon arriving home, but it is canceled when Haruka finds Sora not feeling well in her room after having a bad dream. The next day Nao notices that Haruka tries to hide his date with her from Sora, but she just went along. One night, Haruka catches Sora masturbating in her room while mentioning his name, much to his dismay—she is enamored with him ever since that one summer day in their childhood when Haruka kissed Sora while playing.

Episode 11: "The Uncertain Pair"/"Sorameku Futari" (ソラメクフタリ) —

One afternoon, when Kozue and Nao decide to visit the Kasugano residence, they catch the twins in the middle of making love.

Episode 12: "To the Distant Sky"/"Haruka na Sora e" (ハルカナソラヘ) —

Kozue runs away in shock at the sight of the twins making love, while Nao calmly leaves the scene. Haru is mortified but Sora doesn't even care. Haruka thinks of ditching school, but she tells him to think little of it. Kozue tells him the next day that she'll never talk to him again, while Nao effectively ends her relationship with him after his apology. That night, Haruka fights with Sora when he tells her that they should stop doing it, even inadvertently hitting her. Days later, the two leave the place to live together overseas in the city where an artisan who had connections with their parents lived, hoping to find happiness elsewhere. Even though Kozue is unwilling to accept them, Nao believes they will do just fine.
